Andrew T. Guertler, MD
Chairman - Board of Directors
Andy Guertler attends First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia and works at the University Health Center at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Andy has been going to Haiti since 2007. He has been involved in construction through Building Goodness Foundation and the Friends of Ft. Liberte and medical care in Grison Garde through The Haiti Mission. Andy is currently organizing and coordinating building maintenance of the guest house in Ft. Liberte and leads a yearly trip in late October.
Vice Chairman - Board of Directors
Les Enterline has led the Christmas trip since 1995. For many years, he led the Warrenton Baptist team, but after moving to Hopewell, NJ in 2007, he quickly got his new church, Central Baptist, so involved that they have taken over the Christmas trip! Les has been an integral part of the development of the Eben Ezer Clinic.
Terry Hayes is a member of the Alliance Community Fellowship and is retired as Theatre Director at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va. He serves as our Financial Officer and handles the daily deposits of all contributions received by the Friends of Ft. Liberte, as well as all the necessary paperwork to maintain our non-profit status. He first went to Haiti with the GO! group from First Baptist Church of Elkins in 1987, and has returned many times. Terry has served on the Board of Directors since it's inception in 1993, and he is an integral part of the daily operations that make the work we do possible.
Annette King Crislip
Chair - Finance Committee
Annette first went to Haiti in 1975 with the YES! group from St. Albans, WV. She has served as the chair of the FFL Board since it's inception in Elkins, WV in 1993. She lives with her husband Drew in Clarksburg, WV. They have five children, ages 16 to 32, all of whom have traveled to Fort Liberte. Annette has been taking groups to Haiti for almost 20 years with her church, Clarksburg Baptist, and several other area churches. Annette currently works as a full-time volunteer for the organization.
A charter member of the board, Bonnie has volunteered with the Friends of Fort Liberte since she first became a child sponsor in 1987. A public health nurse and infectious disease specialist, she helped to establish the clinic program on her first trip to Fort Liberte in 1992. She continues to support that program on annual work trips and from her home in Elkins, WV year round. Bonnie has three grown children who have all traveled to Haiti and she looks forward to taking her grandchildren to Haiti within the next few years.
Child Sponsorship Coordinator
Gail Kelly and her husband, "Pat", live in Huntington, WV and belong to New Baptist Church. They started going to Haiti in 1997, and quickly became a most important part of the FFL family, taking over the organization of the Haitian Children's Fund, photographing and updating all the children's records each year. Pat and Gail's love for the children of Ft. Liberte is evident to all who know them. Last year, they also became Trip Leaders. Gail is a Lab Technician and has worked hard to set up and maintain the Lab at the Eben Ezer Clinic.
Chair - Construction Committee
Christopher King, an architect from Knoxville, TN, has grown up with Haiti, meeting Pastor Andre Jean when he was just one day old! He first went to Ft. Liberte at age 12 and participated in trips all through high school. He is the designer of the new King Orphanage, and now uses his skills as our Project Manager, coordinating construction teams. He and his wife, Alice, are active at Redeemer Church in Knoxville, TN and are helping to lead the May-June trip.
Chair - Education Committee
Malissa Smith lives in Charleston WV. She is a retired early childhood education teacher. Malissa started going to Haiti in 2001 with the medical mission team from First Presbyterian Church in South Charleston. She heads up the education committee for FFL and also helps with child sponsorship records.
Chair - Orphanage Committee
Clair Peyton lives in Warrenton, Virginia, and attends Warrenton Baptist Church. During her six trips to Haiti since 2007, she has worked in the medical clinic, on construction sites, and hung out at the orphanage as much as possible. Clair chairs the orphanage committee
Chair- Farm Committee
Suzie and her husband, Dennis, make their home in Wallback, WV,
where they attend the Newton Baptist Church. They made their
first trip to Fort Liberte’ in 2003. They have worked in the Medical
Clinic as well as on the construction site. They now lead the Central
WV Team, which concentrates on construction and farm development. Suzie is retired from the WV Department of Tax and Revenue and is
a WVU Certified Master Gardener. Suzie devotes much of her time
as Chairman of the Farm Committee, which is committed to making the Eben-Ezer Farm a sustainable, thriving farm.
Shelly Hodges lives in Cross Lanes, WV with her husband Jim. She has been going to Fort Libertè with the South Charleston medical team since 2009. As a new member of the FFL Board she is serving on the Medical Committee. She is a pharmacist with Fruth Pharmacy and oversees the running of the pharmacy in the Eben-Ezer Clinic. Shelly attends Covenant Presbyterian in Nitro, WV.
Dennis, along with his wife Suzie, makes his home at Wallback, WV. Dennis is part owner and office manager at Legg’s Welding Inc., where he has worked for 37 years. He is also a bi-vocational minister and his home church is Newton Baptist Church at Newton, WV. Dennis and Suzie have been the leaders for the Central WV team since 2012.
He made his first trip to Fort Liberte’ in 2003. He loves construction and his particular passion is new projects to improve the Eben-Ezer Farm.
